The terms you are likely to meet while comparing containers.
- As-is
- Sold in the current condition. Read the stated exclusions and inspect before taking on a repair project.
- Cargo worthy (CW)
- A description relating to suitability for cargo service. Confirm the seller’s criteria and required shipping documentation.
- Corner casting
- A fitting at a container corner used by compatible handling and securing equipment.
- CSC
- The International Convention for Safe Containers, which provides a framework for container safety approval and examination.
- Door opening
- The clear space through which an item must pass, which is smaller than the interior envelope.
- Dry container
- An enclosed general-purpose container without an active refrigeration system.
- High cube
- A taller container format, commonly 9ft 6in externally compared with 8ft 6in for a standard dry container.
- One-trip
- A container sold after limited initial cargo use. It can still have handling marks.
- Payload
- The load allowance; distinguish it from empty weight and maximum gross weight.
- Reefer
- A refrigerated container. Check the refrigeration equipment separately from the shell.
- Run-out
- The clear working length needed for a delivery vehicle to complete unloading and move away, as specified by the carrier.
- Tare
- The empty container’s weight.
- Tilt-bed
- A delivery method in which the truck bed angles to slide the container into position.
- Wind and watertight (WWT)
- A weather-protection description under the seller’s condition terms. It does not mean condensation-free.
